Is it that easy to get locked out of your Gmail?

This article seems to suggest it is.
So, if somebody knows your Gmail address (which is very easy to find) they can try to open your account with whatever password they think of. If they do it enough times, you get locked out.
A tutorial in the post above tells how to get around this on a Windows box with Fetchmail.
However, as I don't use Windows, I'm interested to know if Mutt can do the same job on a Linux machine.
