Terminal with multiple screens

Terminator allows dividing the terminal screen into many smaller screens each of which can be independently operated.
This could be useful although configuration is a problem as it copies the configuration of the main terminal but not quite. As an example, the background seems much darker in terminator than in the terminal with the result that the font colour I chose in terminal turns out to be too dark for the terminator. Unfortunately, you can't specify two different font colours.
Looks like you have to choose one or the other to use.
