This is for Ubuntu. Don't know if I can do this with Windows XP which I've been trying to install to a usb HDD for some time with spectacular lack of success. Must look at this. Here's a link that talks about Windows cloning.
There is a device you can remove that will prevent windows from blue screening if you have replaced the hardware and / or cloned the install, i'd have to ask my buddy what it is tho.
